Frequently Asked Questions
How do I scan a prescription with RxScan?
Open PawDose and tap the + button on the Medications tab. Select "Scan Prescription" and point your camera at the prescription label. Make sure the label is well-lit and fully in frame. Apple Intelligence will automatically read the medication name, dosage, and frequency and pre-fill your schedule. Review the details, make any corrections, and tap Save.
How do I add a pet?
Tap the Pets tab at the bottom of the app, then tap "Add Pet" in the top right corner. Enter your pet's name, species, breed (optional), weight, and a photo if you'd like. Once your pet is added, you can start adding their medications from the Medications tab.
How do I enable notifications?
When you add a medication, PawDose will ask permission to send you reminders. If you declined previously, go to your iPhone's Settings → PawDose → Notifications, and enable "Allow Notifications." You can customize the alert style, sounds (including PawDose's custom chime), and whether to show previews on the Lock Screen.
How do actionable notifications work?
When a dose reminder arrives, long-press or swipe left on the notification to reveal quick actions: "Mark Taken" (records the dose and updates your Paw Score), "Snooze 15 min" (reminds you again in 15 minutes), and "Skip" (marks the dose as skipped with a note). You can use these actions directly from the notification without opening the app.
What is the Paw Score?
The Paw Score is your daily medication adherence score — a percentage showing how many scheduled doses your pet actually received. A score of 100% means every dose was given on time. The score refreshes each day at midnight. You can view your score history on the Insights tab.
How do I set up the Apple Watch app?
PawDose for Apple Watch installs automatically when you install PawDose on your iPhone. Open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll to PawDose, and make sure "Show App on Apple Watch" is enabled. To add a complication, long-press your watch face and tap Customize → choose any complication slot → scroll to PawDose.
How does iCloud Sync work?
PawDose uses iCloud to sync your pets and medications across all your devices. Make sure you're signed into the same iCloud account on all devices and that iCloud Drive is enabled (Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Drive). Changes sync automatically in the background. No additional setup is needed.
Can I add medications manually without scanning?
Absolutely! Tap + on the Medications tab and select "Enter Manually." You can type in the medication name, dosage, frequency, start and end dates, and any special instructions. Manual entry is great for medications with labels that are hard to scan or for compounded medications.
